Boy in Skirts is inspired by a highschool experience where I playfully wore the girls uniform to school, which was an unexpectedly liberating experience and I have since started questioning the schemas that label garments with gender stereotypes. The internet has been praising cisgender, heterosexual celebrities for embracing skirts when for decades the queer community has been wearing skirts and received discriminations and minimum recognitions. I sourced a collection of skirts and decided to only wear skirts for a week. I documented by spontaneous thoughts in my handwritten notebook and had myself photographed while I lived my normal life in London. The results were compiled into a zine that documents my thoughts on gender, empowerment, and liberation. During the week, I experienced in no way the loss of masculinity, and I strongly urge that more men could embrace the truly liberating piece of garment. (liberates your mind too)
